BDS course trains students to become capable of carrying out dental practice independently/under supervision of hospital. Skills taught in this course are- prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting teeth, mouth, jaws and other associated tissues.
It is also a good job oriented degree programmes and various opportunities are available in the hospital, pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing industries. The BDS degree is awarded on the successful completion of the four-year academic education and the one year mandatory internship programme in dentistry education leading to the Bachelor of DENTAL SURGERY degree programme. Admission Procedure
Student who have passed 12th and have the back ground subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) and English in 12th stream from a recognized board are eligible to pursue this course. Candidate must also have scored a minimum score of 50% marks in PCB subjects (most institutes do have minimum marks criteria).
Admissions Procedure into BDS programmes will be done through entrance test. Students can appear in entrance exam organized at national or university level examinations. NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is mostly considered for providing admission to BDS courses.
After clearing the exam, students have to participate in the counseling process organized by the respective authority. Seats will be allotted to candidates on the basis of rank, filled choices and availability of seats. for more details click here
DURATION
The Duration of the course is five years with four year of academic session and one year paid rotating internship. The course can be pursed either Full Time or Part Time i.e. through correspondence or distance depending upon one's choice.
PG Course
TBDS graduates do have a handful of PG Courses to choose from. The traditional and the most popular choice among graduates is MDS course. MDS stands for Master of Dental Surgery. MDS is the advanced degree in dentistry field and allows the candidates to specialize in any of its discipline.
